Today's Child

I am rushed to and fro,
no time to smell the flowers —
and I might be allergic.

Pumped with adrenaline
(at times with medicine).
on everyone else's schedule.

I say things like,
"It takes too long."
"I don't want to."
I cry.

I might need more sleep,
or even a hug.
Does anyone notice?

I may not have the words
to tell you how I feel...
Yet, I show you, every day.

Enjoy me
I won't always
be a child.
